Martinez sacking the Wigan Fans..
Liverpool have been granted permission to speak to Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez about taking over from Kenny Dalglish who was sacked on Wednesday.
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan told Sky Sports: "I've always said that when a big club comes he (Martinez) will have permission to talk to them and... they don't come any bigger than Liverpool.
"I gave him permission and he'll be talking to them soon. I don't know when, but it will be quite soon."
Dalglish was sacked on Wednesday after leading Liverpool to a disappointing eighth place in the Premier League although they won the League Cup and reached the FA Cup final.
Although Wigan finished a lowly 15th they had a fine end to the season with Spaniard Martinez again showing his managerial credentials on a tight budget by rallying his struggling team.
"I would love to keep Roberto," Whelan added on Thursday.
"He is a great manager but unfortunately in this day and age of football there are two or three clubs looking for managers and I think Roberto is on the list of every one of them.
"If Liverpool are serious then we may lose him."

Barnes backs Villas-Boas to be next Reds Coach

Thu, 17 May  2012

Plenty of names are floating around as Thursday's papers speculate on potential replacements for Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool, But former Liverpool winger and Legend John Barnes has backed Andre Villas-Boas to be the next Liverpool manager.
Villas-Boas is among the favourites to replace Kenny Dalglish after the Scot was sacked yesterday following a disappointing 16-month period in charge.
Chelsea sacked Villas-Boas in March amid reports he had lost the dressing room following a poor run of form which saw the Londoners drop out of the top four. The 34-year-old is among the favourites for the position at Anfield and Barnes thinks he would do a good job if appointed.
"Andre Villas-Boas is a good manager," Barnes said at a Coca-Cola event to promote the Special Olympics in London. "His footballing philosophy and his style of play fit. He proved he could win things at Porto.
"He was at the right club at the wrong time with Chelsea. There were a lot of problems for him there because of the older players. He is a proven manager and he would be coming in to a humbler squad than the one at Chelsea if he came to Liverpool.
"He will get backing from the players. They will be eager to learn and listen to his plans. I think if it is going to be him he could do a good job at Liverpool."
