Premier League - Drogba confirms Chelsea exit

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has confirmed he will leave the club this summer just three days after leading them to Champions League glory.

The Ivory Coast striker departs after eight years at Stamford Bridge, during which time he won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups in addition to the Champions League won at the weekend in Munich.
Drogba scored a late equaliser against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena which forced extra time in the UEFA showpiece, and netted the decisive penalty in the subsequent shootout to land the West London club a first European Cup triumph.
The 34-year-old's contract expires this summer, and there has been a great deal of speculation that his next move will be to Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.
Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay told the club's official website: "Didier is undoubtedly a Chelsea legend and will always be part of the Chelsea family. He is certainly leaving on a high after Saturday night but he feels the time is right for a new challenge.

 

Liverpool: Rick Parry Says Champions League a Most for Next Coach

Former chief executive Rick Parry says qualifying for the Champions League is the minimum requirement for Liverpool's next manager.The Reds are hunting for a replacement for Kenny Dalglish after his sacking, having finished eighth in the league.

“You first of all set the criteria very tightly. From my experience, that led us to a shortlist of one”

"We always said to be in the Champions League isn't a goal, it's a minimum requirement," Parry told BBC Sport.

"It's tougher now but I don't think it was unrealistic to at least be looking at being in contention last year."
Parry, who was at Anfield for 11 years between 1998 and 2009, was responsible for the appointments of Gerard Houllier and Rafael Benitez.
He added: "If you look at the criteria we applied when we appointed Gerard and Rafa they were a little different, even in that five-year period.

Premier League - Fabianski: I want to leave Arsenal

Poland's goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski wants to leave Arsenal after months of watching his compatriot Wojciech Szczesny from the bench, a Polish daily quoted the 27-year-old as saying.

 

"I hope that my adventure with Arsenal has come to an end," Fabianski told Friday's Gazeta Wyborcza. "I intend to leave and play in a strong league. I wanted to leave in the winter, too, but (Arsenal manager) Arsene Wenger did not give a green light."
Fabianski, who has 20 caps, was named the Polish league's top keeper in 2006 and 2007 during his time with Legia Warsaw.
He joined Premier League Arsenal five years ago but has not been able to secure his position due to injuries and some conspicuous errors.
Poland coach Franciszek Smuda has called him up to the provisional 26-man squad for the Euro 2012 championship, co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine starting next month, but he is expected to play second fiddle to Szczesny again.

Berbatov: It time to leave

Striker Dimitar Berbatov is resigned to leaving Manchester United.
The 31-year-old has had limited first-team opportunities over the last couple of seasons, and claims manager Sir Alex Ferguson did not make good on promises to give him more chances.
He told The Sun: "We talked 10 times, he told me there would be a place for me but I stayed on the bench.
"My time at Manchester United is running out. I no longer feel like a valuable part of this team. I think I did well in the few opportunities that I received.
"I am a little frustrated by the way this happened, I do not think I deserved it. But I have dignity and I stopped going to such meetings, it is clear that I'm leaving United. It's obvious that I have to leave.
"I'm looking for a new place now. I know I can still play at the highest level.
