Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers to 'fight for success in the city'

New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has promised he will "fight for his life" to bring success and ultimately the title to Anfield.
Rodgers, 39, was confirmed as Kenny Dalglish's successor at Anfield after Liverpool and his club Swansea agreed a compensation deal.
"I promise I'll fight for my life and for the people in this city," said the Northern Irishman.

Liverpool have reportedly appointed Swansea City's Brendan Rodgers on a three-year deal.

It is believed Rodgers met with Liverpool's owners on Wednesday and that a three-year deal has been agreed with the man who took Swansea to 11th place this season.
Though Wigan manager Roberto Martinez also held talks with Fenway Sports Group in Miami, Rodgers is now expected to replace Kenny Dalglish at Anfield.
The Northern Irishman led Swansea City to promotion last summer and the Welsh club thrived in the Premier League, winning a legion of admirers thanks to a fluid passing game that has drawn comparisons with Barcelona.

Brendan Rodgers has agreed a deal to become the new manager of Liverpool Football Club.
The 39-year-old is understood to have agreed a three-year contract at Anfield and his appointment is likely to be officially confirmed within 24 hours.

Paul Scholes has signed a one-year contract extension at Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed earlier in the month that Scholes, 37, would be remaining at the club for another season having impressed following his return from retirement in January.
The deal has now been formally completed by the club, who missed out on the Premier League title on goal difference following Manchester City's injury-time win over QPR on the final day of the season.
Scholes made the decision to reverse his retirement, announced last summer, in January and made 17 Premier League appearances, scoring four goals.

NFF STAGES Federation Cup Draw in Abuja


The Draw Ceremony for the national preliminaries of the 2012 Federation Cup will hold at the FIFA Technical Centre, National Stadium Complex, Abuja on Wednesday.

NFF’s Director of Competitions, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi said on Tuesday that 60 clubs from across the States of the Federation have qualified for the national preliminaries and will enter the Draw, which starts at 12pm, on Wednesday.

Among the 60 participants are Cup holders Heartland FC of Owerri and last year’s runners-up Enyimba FC of Aba, as well as CAF Champions League contenders Sunshine Stars FC of Akure, Enugu Rangers, Warri Wolves, Niger Tornadoes, Wikki Tourists, Gombe United FC, Kwara United
FC, ABS FC, 3SC of Ibadan, Kano Pillars, Sharks FC, Akwa United FC, Lobi Stars, Dolphins FC, Rising Stars, Kaduna United FC and Ranch Bees FC – all Premier League clubs.

There are also 15 Nigeria National League Clubs, 14 Nigeria Nationwide League Clubs and 12 Non-League Clubs.

The 15 Nigeria National League clubs are: Abia Warriors, Bayelsa United, El-Kanemi Warriors, Rovers FC, Sportlite FC, Kogi United, First Bank, Nasarawa United, Gateway FC, Prime FC, Crown FC, Plateau United, JUTH FC, FC Taraba and FC Abuja.
