Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers slammed his team’s first half
display in their 1-1 draw with FC Basel, a result which saw them get
eliminated from the Champions League, according to Skysports reports.
Despite starting the second half on better terms, they were shortly
reduced to 10 men when Lazar Markovic picked up a red card for swinging
his arm at Behrang Safari.
Rodgers revealed his unhappiness at their display in the first half
after admitting his team was not good enough to compete in the latter
stages of the competition, but did have some praise for their
performance during the second half.
“The expectation was to get through the group and we haven’t done
that,” he said. “It wasn’t good enough over the course of the group, but
we will learn from the experience. We need to be better.
“First half we were very disappointing, our possession and our
position in the game was disappointing. Technically we were way short,
but second half the players were magnificent.
“The players gave everything in the second half,” he added. “The
quality, tempo and speed of the game was better and it looked like they
(Basel) were hanging on by the end.”
Liverpool will now be looking forward to kick start another era has they are been eliminated from Champions League to Europa League, this is chance for them to still prove them self in Europe.

Three Point a most for Liverpool has Champions League Night Returns
Liverpool will be in action tonight against Basel in Anfield has the last round of champions league group stages kick start tonight at 8:45pm.

The Merseyside red will be hoping to over turn the 1:0 first leg defeat in the hands of Basel has they lie third in the group with 4 point and Basel in second position with 6 point all they will be looking for is to frustrate Liverpool in other to secure just a point which would be enough for them to qualify to the knockout stages.
But it would be a big task because the Brenden Rogers men knows what is as-take if they don't get maximum three point tonight, it means they would be out of champions league probably dropping to Europa League spot.

Manager Brendan Rogers said in an interview that the players have to step up to the task if they are to keep their Champions League dream alive and the match has echoes of the game against Olympiacos in 2004.
It is exactly 10 years today, with his side under former manager Rafa Benitez needing to win by two clear goals to make the knockout stages, Gerrard smashed home with four minutes to go to clinch a 3-1 victory.
It was the beginning of the club’s march towards a famous fifth European Cup win in Istanbul against AC Milan – a match which Gerrard heavily influenced again – but Rodgers insists the next generation now need to rise to the occasion.
“In terms of Steven, we can’t be just reliant solely on him, this has to be about a team performance,” said Rodgers.
“We need other players to step up to the mark, taking on responsibility and being a catalyst and not place it on his shoulders.
“There are few world class players around so when you are in a team that responsibility falls even more so on you but it has never been about that for us.
“For us to get a result we need for the team to be performing well and get a performance.
“This is a competition which has a great history here for Liverpool and the Olympiacos game was a part of that.
“It is an opportunity for the players now to qualify and make sure they write themselves into folklore by winning the game and ensuring they get into the next round – because that is the objective.”
